Charles enlisted in the CSA on July 3, 1862 in Company E, 50 GA Infantry. AT enlistment, he is described as 21 years old (note discrepancy with birthdate above), 5 feet, 8 inches tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, brown hair. His service record has errors in it, so will not be further noted here.
A notation of an old record in the Thomas County Courthouse relating to his case can be found in a published collection of old records compiled by Pascal Burke, in a chapter title, "Disabled Soldiers."
After the war, Charles Thomas became the Thomas County Coroner. His death certificate (registry number 66) states that he was a widower.
