Biography

John m. Cloey (Cloie, Cloah) Mullen of Perry Co., AL. John and Cloah are listed in Jefferson County, GA, 1802 Tax list, and, according to another researcher, John was born in Nash Co., NC; moved to Georgia ca. 1802; applied as a bachelor for 1805 land lottery—drew blank. His residence at the time was given as Hancock Co., GA, where he married Cloah Mullins. He was received by baptism 1 January 1803, Island Creek Baptist Church, Hancock Co.; dismissed by letter 1 Feb. 1812. Served in the War of 1812 for Georgia, commencing service 21 Nov. 1814; expiration of service 20 May 1815. In 1819, he was one of seven constituent members of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Bagler's Creek, Bibb Co., AL (now called Stanton, AL), and was a delegate to the Southern Baptist Association during the period 1819-1828 (along with T. Gandy, W.R. Gandy, Thomas Gandy, and T.H. Gandy). Lived on the "Gandy Place," along Gandy Creek and Mulberry Creek from 1819 until his death in 1851.

Identifying the issue of John and Cloah is difficult because of the frequent occurrence of the name "John" in this family. It is clear, however, that he had a son, John Henderson Gandy. The younger man predeceased the elder, who became guardian for the orphans.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

This is my GGGG-GF. We have been unable to

find a burial for him. I have a good deal of family info. The 1850 Bibb Co. census shows him being born about 1780. However, Ms. Melba's number of 1770 gives a better fit to what is known of him............ Rocky Wright
