Biography

Date of Birth

The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.

AGBI has his DOB as 1695[1]

"The name Thomas Gandy appears in Cape May County land records in the return of survey for Thomas Gandy, 50 acres, called the Addition, on seaboard side, adjoining Gandy's Hall, recorded 20 Apr 1699."[2]

Possible land records for this Thomas Gandy date from 1721, 1725, 1727, etc.[3] some

DOB is revised to before 1678 (age 21 in 1699).

Adult Life

Thomas Gandy was a whaler.[citation needed]

On 3d 6m 1730, there is a Thomas Gandy who attended a men's monthly meeting in Egg Harbor at the home of Jacob Garretson; they were the only two attendees so the meeting was called off. No other mention of Thomas Gandy in the index to this volume (at front).[4]

Family

Wright does not identify the wife of Thomas Gandy. There is no marriage bond for him. Both women attached as wives are currently unsourced. His widow is not named in his will; the FindAGrave profile for his purported wife "Susan Gagnet" says there is no source and her name is "iffy."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Wright concludes Thomas Gandy-54 and this profile were the same person.

See research notes on his "father's" profile, Gandy-54. Some have concluded there was only one Thomas, who died in 1748 and seems to have had more than one wife. Any theories are welcome.

Gandy-173 and Gandy-54 appear to represent the same person because: same dates and places, even same FindAGrave entry
