DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Tabitha by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Tabitha:
I believe that the John Gannaway who was married to Mary McGregor was Tabitha's half brother, not her father. A sampler produced by Mary McGregor Gannaway lists the names and dates of birth of her children: there is no Tabitha. John's father was named John also, and is often referred to as "John, Sr. or "John, the Elder." John the Elder remarried very late in life on 10 Jun 1760 in Prince Edward County Virginia to the widow, Mary Byrum (I have her maiden name as Scott; will look for documentation for the maiden name). I believe that Tabitha was born from this union. John Gannaway Sr. had landholdings in several counties in Virginia, one of which was a land grant dated 26 Jun 1759 for 1023 acres in Cumberland County Virginia on Willis's Creek and Great Guinea. This same property was sold by Robert Lorton (with Tabitha waiving dower) on 22 Dec 1783, which fits in well with the time of John Sr's death.
