Biography

Ann was born in 1827. She is the daughter of Joseph Langdon Ganniclifft and Jane Parsell.

Research Notes

Arthur Williams writes: Three census records (1861, 1871, 1881) all show that Mary had her nephew, Thomas Adams, with her. Thomas was 4 in 1861, 14 in 1871 and, incorrectly, 21 in 1881.

Thomas, who was born in Liverpool (I think in early 1855 [Q3 1857]), was the son of Samuel Adams and Ann Gannicliffe. Ann, I guess, must have died soon after Thomas’s birth (possibly in late 1855 [1857 or possibly in 1859]). Her marriage certificate is dated 14 February 1854 and her age given as 22 (Samuel could also be 22, but 32 is possible — not quite clear). Her name is given as Gunnacliffe; both were living at 16 Club Row, Pillgwenlly, St Woollas, Monmouthshire. Both sign. I have not been able to turn up any further records for these Adamses. — Thomas Adams, their son, was a tailor, he married Martha Morley and died in 1915. The family lived for many years in Wakefield Street, Bank Quay.
