David was born in 1535. He is the son of Richard Ganniclifft.
The first Ganniclifft mention in the records seems to be of John and Richard, listed in the Devon Subsidy Rolls of 1524-27. We are presuming they were brothers and that they were born around 1500. John's goods were assessed at £3 and Richard’s at £4. (Gt-142 and 192)
And the first burial record is for John, for 12 December 1560.
We then have a collection of eight Gannicliffts for seven of whom we have burial records and we are assuming that they are all sons of John and Richard. However, without baptism records we do not know who belongs to whom. Only one, in his burial record of 1583, has a mention of his father - “John, son of John, Cordwainer” (Shoemaker) - so the rest we have distributed arbitrarily between them: two Williams, two Edwards, Hugh, David and Michael.
