Barnes Chief, Barnes, Kansas, Thursday, November 13, 1924 -- Robert Gano Dies

Barnes Chief, Barnes Ks, Nov 29 1924: Obituary Robert Gano was born September 11, 1860 at Eagleville, Mo. His parents moved to Kansas in his early childhood and homesteaded three miles north of Barnes. It was here on the old homestead death came to him, November 11 at the age of sixty four years and two months. He remained unmarried staying at home to care for his parents in their declining years. Besides his aged mother he is survived by five sisters and five brothers all of whom were present at the funeral except one brother living in California. The funeral was held from the home, Thursday afternoon November 13, attended by a large company of friends. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery in charge of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Barnes. The family have the sympathy in their hour of deep grief.

Barnes Chief, Obituary -- The following obituary is a more detailed one of the life of Robert Gano than was printed in the Chief last week. Robert Gano, son of Isaac and Susan Gano, was born at Eagleville, Mo. September 11, 1860 and died at his home near Barnes, November 11, 1924, age sixty four years and two months. He went to Iowa with his parents when a small boy then back to Missouri and came to Kansas, July 3, 1869, settling on the farm that has been his home for over fifty five years except for a few temporary absences. Bob, as he was familiarly known to everyone had a rare character, a friendly cheerful disposition. Ever ready and eager to help whenever needed. A sense of duty rarely found and followed so conscienciously. He was a good son, a kind brother and a splendid neighbor who will long be missed by all. He leaves to mourn for him his aged mother who he has cared for since the death of his father twelve years ago. Was one of twelve children, ten of whom survive also several other near relatives and a host of friends. The five brothers and sisters are Pilip, Hill city; Richard, Ontario, Calif; John, Concordia; Emanual, Barnes; Albert, Bogue; Mrs. Dan Rosebaugh, Barnes; Mrs. Henry Perkins, Hanover; Mrs. Frank Dickinson and Mrs. Frank Zeller, Barnes; and Mrs. Joe Ricard, Eskridge. The family have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood.
