Abel was born in 1836. He was the son of Tyre Gantt and Rhoda Hoyle. He died on 29 June 1862 of wound received at Gaines Mills. [1] His brother, Marcus who enlisted on the same day would die not quite a year later at the Battle of Chancellorsville.[2]
