Biography

Preston J. Gantt was born 13^[1][2][3] Jan 1855 in South Carolina^[4][5][6] to Alford and Sarah Ann Gantt.^[7]

He married wife M.^[2] Lena Dunson,^[8][9] who was born 16 Apr 1866 and died 23 Dec 1916 in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama,^[2] about 1882^[4][5] and the couple had the following known children:

1. Curtis Gantt was born Jan 1883 in Alabama.^[4]
2. Thurman Eugene Gantt was born 04^[2] Oct 1885^[4] and died 20 Apr 1972 in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama.^[9] He is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Andalusia, Alabama.^[2]
3. William P. Gantt was born in Alabama Mar 1888.^[4]
4. Marie T. Gantt was born 21 Apr 1890 in Alabama, died 17 May 1892 at the age of two, and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Andalusia, Alabama.^[2][10]
5. Cathline^[5] "Katie" Lena Gantt was born Jul 1892 in Alabama.^[4]
6. Mazie G. Gantt was born Aug 1894 in Alabama.^[4][5]

In April of 1890 Robert Bradley filed homestead land claim #16,884 which Preston J. Gantt and Abraham Carter of Andalusia, Alabama and Daniel Henderson and John A. Franklin of Loango, Alabama signed as witnesses to his continuous residence on said land as part of his land claim.^[11]

In the fall of 1893 Celia A. Patterson filed Homestead land claim # 28,353 which Noah D. Caton, Preston J. Gantt, James McCormack and John A. Franklin, of River Falls, Alabama signed as witnesses to the continuous residence on said land as part of the land claim.^[12]

Preston died 05 Mar 1943 in Andalusia, Covington County, Alabama^[1] and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery.^[2][3][13]
