Biography

Matilda Gapen was born on 13 Jan 1819 in what is now Monongalia, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Stephen Gapen and Rebecca (Snider) Gapen.

Matilda married Benjamin South (1819–1897) on 15 Nov 1842 in what is now Monongalia, West Virginia.^[1] They resided near Greensboro, Pennsylvania.^[2]

In the 1900 Census Matilda Gapen South was living with her son Enoch C South in Greene Township, Greene, Pennsylvania.
