Newspaper report, January 28
A very old resident of Richmond, in the person of Mr. Theophilus Gapper passed away yesterday morning at the age of 71 years. Although he had not been well for some time past, his end came suddenly, heart disease being the cause. Deceased, who was unmarried, had resided with his sister, Mrs Rodgers, at Axe farm for many years, where he had been engaged in cattle raising, some of the finest beasts in the district being sold off this property. The late Mr Gapper was highly respected and although he never took part in public affairs was deeply interested in politics, being a staunch supporter of the late Mr R. J. Seddon. [3]
