Caroline Gapper, the daughter of William dn Martha Gapper, was baptised at Bruton in Somerset on 16 July 1834.[1]
In the 1841 England Census,[2] Caroline Gapper's age was given as 7 and she was born in the County of Somerset along with the rest of the family who were residing at Walk, in the Township of Bruton with William (30) a Labourer, Martha (30), Mary Ann (3) and Jane (7mths).
On 29 September 1834, the whole family, with the addition of William Robert (2), arrived on the ship "Sea" in New South Wales. William Thomas (39) gave his occupation as Groom, Martha (42) as Wife, and Caroline (15) as Home Servant. While all the children have their 'Native Place and County' as Bruton, Somersetshire, William Thomas, gave his as St James, Gloster, and Martha as Marnhull, ?, Dorset. There is a second record of the same ship, which gives the arrival date as 2 October 1834 and the 'Origin location' as Lowes Orburn, County Tipperary, Ireland.
Caroline Gapper married George Gilbert, with the marriage registered in 1853 in Victoria, Australia.
According to the Australia, Death Index record for Caroline Gilbert, her death was registered in 1871 in Victoria, when she was aged 37.
She was buried at Melbourne General Cemetery,Carlton North, Melbourne City on 19 May 1871 in a public plot with no headstone.[3]
