She was a Catholic and was baptized at Annunciation Church - her God Parents are George and Alvina Markham She only had a Grade 8 Education at Holy Rosary School She resided at 2204 St. Alphonse St. since before 1966. She was in Excellent Health until her passing.
My great-grandparents were introduced to each other by Albert Thibert and Odile (Garant) Thibert , on a blind date and later married. They were married at "Our Lady of the Rosary Chruch Feb 15 1930. It was officiated by Rev. A,J McNabb and witnessed by his Sister Matilda (Eva) and her Husband Harvey Lauzon
They were blessed with 13 children - 8 girls and 5 boys - all born at home ; and all single births.
They had their good and bad times
The bad and sad times in their life was when he took sick and was hospitalized in London for his nervous breakdowns. (story was that he was worried they were going to send him to war ... and he often talked to himself over the years)
At that time ; Children's Aid took the children ... it took 14 years for the children to be returned 1 by 1.
The sadness continued as they lost their child Roger to a drowning accident. July 10 1966 at the age of 21. Not long after they lost their child Rose to sickness. January 23 1987 (Heart Attack)
My Great-Grandmother loved to bake ; she was famous for her slab cakes especially marble cake. We all loved her Chicken and Dumplings and at Christmas there were always her famous baked beans.
Great-Grandma loved flowers; especially roses and her Country and Western music. Her an her sister Lena would often share records.
I have very fond memories of my great-grandmother at her small white home on the corner bend on St Alphonse Street in Tecumseh next to the railway. ( home is now torn down)
She had the most beautiful long white hair ; with her apron in the kitchen and loved us great grandchildren very much. She spoke mostly French that I can recall (or she used her French around us so we didn't know what she was saying lol - although perhaps unbeknownst to her - we went to a French grade school lol) . I can still picture all the knick-knacks and Christmas decorations in the living room ...The fridge had all kinds of rubber style magnets - and there was a skeleton key to the bathroom door (was always afraid to lock myself in-hahah) .
