Abner Garard was the son of Justus and Rachel (Corbly) Garard, b. 1798 (based on tombstone reading) in Greene Co, PA and died there on 25 July 1829. He is buried in the cemetery in Garards Fort, Greene Co. Abner and his wife, Hester, were on the 1820 census with a male under the age of 10 in their household. The couple sold their share of real estate that had belonged to his father on 11 Jun 1829. Hester declined to administer Abner's estate which was then granted to Nathaniel Campbell. [1][2]
Abner Garard, son of Justus and Rachel (Corbly) Garard married Hester J "Hettie" Campbell on 1 Aug 1819. They had 4 children, Justus Garard born 1820 and died after 1885 in Kansas, Rebecca A Garard born 25 Sep 1822 and married David John Boydston and died 5 Nov 1860 in Marion County, Iowa. Another son, Kinsey Garard born 1824 and died 25 Jul 1892 in Monongalia County, West Virginia and another daughter, Elizabeth Jane Garard born 1826 and married Robert S Patterson MD. Hester (Campbell) Garard remarried around 1832 to Abraham Moore there in Greene County, Pennsylvania having 4 additional children with Abraham. Most of Hester's children along with Hester settled in Marion county, Iowa where they died and are buried. Justus Garard, Hester's son named one of his son's Abner after his dad. The Nathaniel Campbell spoken of in the Probate is believed to be Hester's father who came to Greene County, Pennsylvania from Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Hester was born in Fayette County. Pennsylvania. [3]
RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION BY JULIE MOON
A "Mother's Family Tree" and a DAR report included information regarding Hester Campbell's marriage to Abraham Moore, a few of Abraham and Hester's children and a marriage date that was a problem. One of Abraham and Hester (Campbell) Moore's children was an Andrew Jackson Moore.
History of Marion County, Iowa and Its People pg 597 (by John W Wright, William A Young)
MOORE, JACKSON----Farmer and stock-raiser, P.O. Knoxville. Was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, December 25, 1833. His parents, Abraham and Hester Moore, were among the early settlers of that State. He traces his lineage to Dutch and French ancestry. His mother’s maiden name was Campbell. At the time of her union with Moore, her name was Girard, (Garard or Garrard or Gerrard) her first husband being dead. Mr. Moore died when Jackson was in his tenth year; his mother died in Marion County, 1878, in her seventy-eighth year. The subject’s vocation in early life was that of a farmer boy, which he has closely adhered to. In 1868 he took up his abode in Marion county. On the second of August, 1861 he enlisted in company N, Sixth Virginia, was commissioned second lieutenant, and was mustered in as first lieutenant before he entered active service. He participated in the Fairmount engagement, and many skirmishes. Lieutenant Moore was principally engaged in dealing with the bushwhackers in Virginia. He was honorably discharged, June 10, 1865.
2) The 1850 US Census shows Jackson Moore and his brother, Remembrance Lindsey Moore living with a Justice and Elizabeth Garard. Justus Garard in this census is about 30 years of age.
3) Carl Nollen of the Marion County Historical Society discovered probate information on Remembrance Lindsey Moore. Since Remembrance Lindsey Moore never married all nieces and nephews listed in the probate had to be from his siblings and half-siblings. This is excerpts from the probate.

4) Through this probate information the marriage date given me for Abraham and Hester (Campbell) Moore was discovered to actually be the date Abner Garard and Hester Campbell married. I then found this file online. Per GEDCOM File: 2199942.ged desplin@mstar2.net -- this file states that a "Hester" was Abner's wife and that they married around 1820. The marriage date I had on the DAR application.
5) Abner Garard (sale of property) Abner and Hester Garard sold their share of real estate that had belonged to his father, Justus Garard on 11 Jun 1829. Hester declined to administer Abner's estate which was granted to Nathaniel Campbell. His inventory was filed 14 Sep 1829, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Estate Book 1, p 359, case #634. (I believe this Nathaniel Campbell to be Hester's father or brother. An elderly Nathaniel died in 1841.)
