John was born in 1844. He is the son of John Garber and Mary Rife. [1] He married Elizabeth Livingston in 1868. [2] Elizabeth died in 1874 and he remarried to Caroline Blanchaine. [3][4] It is unclear what became of John "Major" Garber after the death of his second wife. At some point before the census in 1900, he had moved to Oklahoma[5], and married Katherine McMillian[6]
