DONALD GARBER DIED AT 10:20 THIS MORNING

Services at Presbyterian Church Friday at 3 O'clock

Donald J. GARBER, well known Fairfield resident, passed away at 10:20 o'clock this morning at the Jefferson county hospital following a short illness with meningitis. He had not been in good health for about a year but his late illness came as a surprise and shock to his many friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the First Presbyterian church in charge of Dr. Gilbert Voorhies with interment in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GARBER was born August 18, 1897, in Libertyville, Iowa. At the time of his death he was employed as bookkeeper for C. H. Kearns Construction company and was serving his second year on the Fairfield school board being elected to that place March 1930.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Dan Milo, his mother, Mrs. Florence GARBER of this city, and three sisters: Martha, at home, Mrs. Ruth STRAUS and Mrs. B_____ CAMPBELL (illegible – scratched film, but should be Bessie, wife of Henry). He also leaves two uncles, E. F. GARBER of Fairfield and Gus GARBER of Albert Lea, Minn.

CITY GATHERS TO PAY TRIBUTE TO DON GARBER

Friends Fill the Presbyterian Church To Hear Ceremonies

Impressive funeral services yesterday afternoon in the Presbyterian church marked the last tribute paid to Donald J. GARBER by his friends and associates. The edifice was filled to overflowing by friends, many of whom had come for many miles to honor the man who had won their esteem and affections.

Magnificent floral offerings, sent by friends and business associates, were banked about the casket and upon the church rostrum in mute testimony of the esteem in which Mr. GARBER was held by all who knew him.

Services began with the reading of scripture and prayer by Dr. U. S. Smith, followed by music by the Forum club male quartet composed of Glen Peebler, Charles Ireland, Harvey Gaumer and Charles Brown. The quartet sang as its selection "Rock of Ages." Dr. Gilbert Voorhies of the Presbyterian church was in charge of the services.

Pallbearers were C. H. Kearns, Dr. J. V. H. Schantz, P. L. O'Neal, H. D. Repass, Harold Zeigler and F. L. Helfinstine. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GRABER (sic – GARBER) was an active member of the Fairfield school board. The city schools were dismissed and the board members and teachers attended the last rites in a body as did his fellow workmen, the Forum club, 1930 letter men of the Fairfield high school and the Forum club girls.

Among those from a distance who attended the services were G. W. GARBER of Albert Lea, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Watts of Bonaparte, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Campbell, Mrs. Cecil Campbell and Mrs. W. B. Campbell all of Oskaloosa.
