  • Jerry Garcia was a founding member, and generally considered the leader of the Grateful Dead, a psychedelic rock band arising out of the San Francisco hippie counterculture in the 1960s.
  • At age four, Garcia lost much of the middle finger of his right hand in a woodchopping accident.
  • Garcia was married four times. He had four children with those four women, two of them out of wedlock.
