Nicolas was born in 1716 to Juan Montano and Juana Gallegos. Unfortunately his mother died two months after his sister's birth in 1729. He most likely lived with the Tomás Garcia family along with his sister since both used this family name until they married, when they started using Montaño again. In 1734 he married Quitaria Romera.
