José García has Mexican ancestry.

José Antonio García was born in Culiacan, Sonora, Mexico.[1]

Pvt. José Antonio García, his wife Petronila Josefa de Acuna, and their children María Josefa, José Francisco, and Juan Guillermo, as well as Señora García's two children from her first marriage, María Graciana and José Vincente Antonio Hernández were part of the 1776 de Anza Expedition, and resided in the Presidio of San Francisco in December of 1776. [2][3]

Son Francisco Maria Leon Garcia was baptized on June 29, 1778 at the age of 2. On July 25, 1807, he married Felipa Lizalda, daughter of Pedro Lizalda and Maria Encarnacion Perez. [4] He was buried on December 31, 1834 at the Mission Santa Clara de Asís cemetary.[5]

José died within two years of his arrival, on January 24, 1778. [6] His was the first recorded (gente de razon) death on the books of that mission. [7]
