Eliza GARD, daughter of Thomas GARD (labourer) and Elizabeth EVERETT, was born about 1814 and christened on 24 Jul 1814 at South Pertherton, Somerset, England, United Kingdom.

Eliza died on 24 November 1890 in Armidale (R.D.), Colony of New South Wales about age 76, and was buried in Armidale Cemetery, Armidale, Colony of New South Wales.

Eliza married Samuel GENTLE, son of John GENTLE and Mary LAVOR, on 22 January 1836 in Somerset, England, United Kingdom.

Samuel GENTLE was born in 1814 in South Petherton, Somerset, England, was baptised on 1 May 1814 in The Old Meeting-Presbyterian, South Petherton, Somerset, England. He died on 20 October 1891 in Armidale (R.D.), Colony of New South Wales at age 77, and was buried in Armidale Cemetery, Armidale, Colony of New South Wales.

In 1841, Eliza aged 25 was living at Moor, South Petherton, with Samuel GENTLE aged 25, labourer, and their children Chares GENTLE aged 5 and Harriott GENTLE aged 6 months.

In 1851, Elizabeth GENTH aged 33 [Elizabeth Gentle] was living at 50 Moors South Petherton with husband Samuel Genth, 33, agricultural labourer and their children Charles Genth, 15, agricultural labourer; Elizabeth Genth, 12, glover; Harriet Genth, 10; George Genth 8; Susan Genth 6; and William Genth 3.

Migrated from England to the Colony of New South Wales on the ship Malvina Vidal in 1853. Samuel is listed as age 38, a labourer who cannot read or write, when he arrived in Sydney on 20 June. He disembarked with his wife Eliza, 38, can read; daughter Elizabeth, 15; daughter Harriett, 12; son George, 10; daughter Susan, 8; son William, 5; and daughter Davina (?), 1. Most of the children can read, but only son George can read and write. Also onboard the Malvina Vidal from South Petherton were John and Susan Elliott and their 4 children, and another family.
