Anne was born on 13 May 1746. She was the daughter of Rt. Hon. Charles Gardiner and Florinda Norman.

At the age of 16 she married William Power Keating Trench 1st Earl of Clancarty, son of Richard Trench and Frances Power, on 30 October 1762 at Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland.

They went on to have about 19 children.

As a result of her marriage, Anne Gardiner was styled as Baroness Kilconnel of Garbally on 25 November 1797; she was styled as Viscountess Dunlo of Dunlo and Ballinasloe on 3 January 1801 and she was styled as Countess of Clancarty on 11 February 1803.
