Extracted Sources

The following source extracts provide a profile relevant summary of the biographic data contained within the particular cited source. Each data extract is indexed to a reference citation in the bibliography section at the end of the profile. These data extractions are provided to make available a side by side comparison of the genealogical data in the cited references such that the agreements, conflicts, and reliability of the genealogical information may be immediately weighed by the reader.

Source Extracts reliability rating guide and notes:
  • A Primary Source contains data that was recorded by the person in the profile; or by someone known to or with first hand knowledge of that person, during the person's lifetime, death or within two generations thereafter.
  • A Secondary Source is a genealogical reference created as the result of a extensive study of available source material and it provides some evidence of the source documentation used to generate the text data.
  • A Tertiary Source is a genealogical data source which is a collection of genealogical information that does not cite Primary or Secondary information sources, and the data may be factual or hearsay.
  • Braces {Editorial Note Example} are used to insert editorial comments; that is to say, information or clarification that is not contained in the original, cited source material.

Marriage Record Extracts

  • Primary Source, Rhode Island Town Marriages Index, 1639-1916 [2] : Data Extract:
  1. ) Page 149 Ezekiel Gardiner of this town and Mary Gardiner of North Kingston were Lawfully married 1 Februay 1770. {Editorial, the only Ezekiel Gardner available to be married in Kingston at this date is the Ezekiel of this profile, see research notes for analysis}
  2. ) Page 106 Notes "A Record of the names of the persons joyned together in Marriage by Joseph Torrey Pastor of the Chts: of Christ in South Kingston. Hence, the in this Town note is South Kingston.

  2. ) Page 57. Ezekiel Gardner (214), son of George Gardner (46), was born in 1734 (?) and married Sarah ____, he died 1780. Ezekiel was the father of:
    1. ) Ezekiel Gardiner (711) was born 1768 and married Ruth ____. She died 12 June 1854 aged 81 years. {Editorial, the Robinson book seems to be self-conflicted with this data. The 1768 DoB for Ezekiel M. Gardner of is exactly the same as that given in the book for Ezekiel Gardiner (III); and the 12 June 1854 DoD for Ruth Tanner is exactly the same death date given in the book for Ruth Tillinghast the wife of Ezekiel Gardiner (III), hence what is perfectly clear is that the author was confused about this relationship and the data in the Robinson Genealogy regarding these two Ezekiel Gardiners is self-conflated. However, this entry point into the Gardiner tree does fit very well with other known data for Ezekiel M. Gardner and thus has been adopted as the parentage for Ezekiel M. Gardner of the profile.}
    2. ) Phebe Gardiner (712). {Editorial: The birth dates for Phebe and Ezekiel imply that they were twins}
      1. ) These two gave receipts for legacies from their father's estate.

Research Notes

  1. ) There are two Ezekial Gardiners born about the same time in Kingston, Rhode Island. The counterpart to the Ezekiel Beebe of this profile is Ezekiel Gardiner who married Susannah Congdon and he is is from a different branch of the family.
  2. ) Robinson lists Sarah with an unknown surname to be the wife of Ezekiel Gardiner of this profile, however repeated searches of the, family search, and Internet databases records has failed to find a single reference for an Ezekiel / Sarah (anybody) date appropriate marriage nor any reference to Ezekiel and Sarah Gardiner as a couple. Thus this may be an erroneous data point or perhaps a short lived marriage, hence a search was conducted to find alternative records. The only marriage record not linked to any Ezekiel Gardiner of this date range is the source [2] for Mary Gardiner, married to Ezekiel Gardiner on 1 Feb 1770. The Ezekiel Gardiner for this marriage would have had to have been born sometime between 1720 and 1750. There are only two known (as of Sept 2018) Ezekiel Gardiners living in the Kingston, Rhode Island area that fit this Date of Birth range:
    1. ) Ezekiel Gardiner, born 1738 who is known to be married to Susannah Congdon between 1764 and 1830, hence he cannot be the husband of Mary Gardiner in this 1 Feb 1770 marriage. or
    2. ) Ezekiel Gardiner of this profile, born 1734; Given that the Ezekiel Gardiner of this profile is the on viable identity to be the husband of Mary, it is logical to assign this record (hence marriage) to the Ezekiel Gardiner of this profile, as has been done.
  3. ) Other Ezekiel Gardiner references:
    1. ) There is an Ezekiel C Gardiner Jr. infant son of Ezekiel C Gardiner and Martha Gardiner buried in an Exeter Cemetery on 18 Jan 1837. {Too late for the Ezekiel of this profile}
    2. ) Also Ezekiel C Gardiner husband of Abby C ___ 1839 in New Bedford Mass. Too late
    3. ) Ezekiel Gardiner son of Samuell Gardiner bp. 13 Apr 1755 at Pembroke , Mass
    4. ) Ezekiel son of Samuel and Zeruiah Gardner died aged 6 yrs &11 mo.
    5. ) Death of Mary Gardner 1815. This could be the Mary Gardiner married to this Ezekiel, Mary Niles married to Ezekiel Watson Gardiner, or an unknown, unmarried Mary Gardiner.
