Harriett married Herbert Dixon on 29 August 1861 in Perth, Western Australia.[1]
The late Mrs. Harriet Dixon, relict of the late Mr. Herbert Dixon, a very old colonist of this State, passed away on the 7th inst, in her 79th year. The deceased lady, who was born at Antigua, West Indies, went to England when about five years of age. She arrived in this State in the year 1850. with her father, the late Mr. Thomas Gardner, who was chief warder over one of the first batches of convicts in this State. Mr. Thomas Gardner was an old Crimean veteran, who fought at Inkerman and Sebastopol. In Decem ber, 1876, Mrs. Dixon was on the s.s. Georgette when that ship was wrecked off Cape Leeuwin, and one of her daughters, aged 8 years, was drowned. During her 68 years' residence in West ern Australia, she resided principally in Fremantle, where she was well known.
The funeral cortege moved from St. John's Church, Adelaide-street, Fre mantle, on Tuesday afternoon, the 8th inst., and proceeded to the local ceme tery, where the remains were interred in the Church of England portion. The Rev. Canon R. H. Moore, who conduct ed the service at the church, also officiated at the graveside in the presence of many old identities. The chief mourners were Messrs. William and Charles Dixon (sons), Mr. W. A. Payne (son-in-law), and Dr. J. Maunsell (nephew).[2]
