In the Bacon Pedigree in the Visitation of London in 1568 she was recorded as Mary, daughter of John Gardner esq of Grove Place, Buckinghamshire. Mary was the first wife of James Bacon, Alderman of London. They had a daughter Anne who married John Rivett, gentleman of Bramston [Brampton], Suffolk.[1][2]
1st wife of James Bacon. They had four children one of which survived infancy, Anna who married John Ryvett of Bramston, County Suffolk.
Grove Place was brought to the Gardiner family through the marriage of William Gardiner of London to a dau. of Grove, of Grove Place Bucks.
`Dudley of Yanwath,' pedigree, has an error that makes Elizabeth Gardiner, a dau. of John, but the will of William Gardiner, MP states that Eliz. was sister. .. John, Wm MP & Eliz Gardiner were children of William of London who married the heiress of Grove Place, and John died s.p., so it may be the same error appears in the Bacon pedigree. It's more likley that Mary was dau. of William of London.
The other option would be that this Mary was born at a later date and the dau. of John Gardiner, b. 1547 ... but this seems unlikely because Mary's dau., Anne was already married to John Rivett before 1568, and Mary died before 1565 .. Anne Rivett (nee Bacon), was prob. around the same age as John Gardiner (b. 1547), which strengthens the likelihood that Mary was the sis. of the MPs John & William.
