1908 May 12 Newcastle Herald: HAMILTON. A memorial service in connection with the death of the late Mrs. G. Gilbert was hold in the Hamilton Methodist School Hall, Hamilton, on Sunday evening, when the large congregation was a testimony to the esteem in which the deceased lady was held. Rev. G. H. Hewitt conducted the service, and based an appropriate discourse on II. Cor., v. 6-8, contrasting the earthly "tabernacle" with the “heavenly home," and urging all to prepare for death, so that it, might be "going home." He stated that the late Mrs. Gilbert was born in Hampshire England, on 9th November, 1848. When she was a young girl her family came to New South Wales, and settled at Singleton, where her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner, still live. Forty-three years ago she was married to Mr. George Gilbert and subsequently came to live in the Newcastle district. She was converted in the Primitive Methodist Church at Cook's Hill 36 years ago, and for several years she was a member of the Tighe's Hill Church. Then, removing to Hamilton she joined the church in that suburb 25 years ago. She gave abundant proof of the fact that she was a loving, self-denying wife and mother. Of her family of eleven, six are living, and five of them are connected with the Hamilton Methodist Church. Her last illness was of a painful nature, but she bore it with true Christian faith and resignation, and "fell asleep" to awake "at home" on the 29th April. Appropriate hymns were sung, and the choir, under the baton of Mr. S. Kinder, rendered the anthems "O, Rest in the Lord," and "Weep No More."
