Biography

Emily Harriet was born in 1872 at Scott's Flat near Singleton. She was the daughter of George Gardner and Harriet Rampton. She passed away in 1946 at Muswellbrook. In 1889 at Singleton she married Charley ROWLAND. Emily, Charlie and family lived at Bengalla near Muswellbrook.

EMILY ROWLAND The death occurred at her late residence at "Bengalla" on the 7th inst., of Mrs. Emily Harriett Rowland, relict of the late Mr. Charles Rowland, at the age of 74. Deceased was married at Singleton when 17 years of age. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs George Gardner. In 1912 the late Mr. and Mrs. Rowland and family went to reside at Bengalla, where members of the family are still residing. Deceased is survived by eight sons and three daughters, viz., Messrs Archie Rowland (Wybong), Aylmer (Army), Roy (Police Force, Sydney), Charles and Kenneth (Railway Department), Frederick, Leslie and George ("Bengalla"), Matron Hill (Far West Home, Manly), Mrs. A. Cribb ("Ben galla"), and Mrs. E. Burns (Mudgee). The funeral took place to the Church of England cemetery at Muswellbrook, where the Rev. H. Hampden Hobart officiated at the graveside. Floral tributes were received from: Elsie and family; Archie, Molly and family; Mary, Albert and family; Alymer, Nellie and family; Maud, Bill and family; George and Alice; Charlie, Eileen and family; Roy, Molly, and family; Fred, Ethel and family; Les, Rita and family; Ken, Elsie and family; Mr. and Mrs. Keys; Rosemary and Richard Keys; chairman and council Far West Children's Health Scheme; staff of the Far West Home; Edith Somerville; Mr. and Mrs. Langton and boys; officers and members M.U.I.O.O.F.
