John Gardner was born in Pennsylvania in 1792. Census records indicate he was the husband of Mary (Unknown) Gardner and that she was born in Wurttemberg, Germany between 1793-1794. The couple are listed together on the 1850 Census[1] and the 1860 Census[2] in Homer Township, Morgan, Ohio and it is believed that they had at least six children. Find a Grave indicates that Mary passed away in 1869 (Find a Grave ID: 9463260) and John is listed as widowed on the 1870 Census in the residence of his daughter; Rosanna (Gardner) Moody.[3]
He passed away in November of 1875 at the age of 83 in Homer Township, Morgan, Ohio.[4] A Find-A-Grave memorial has been located for him and his wife; however, the date of death listed there has December 13, 1875 instead of November 13, 1875 (as is listed on his Ohio County Death Record).[5]
The following children are listed on Census Reports:
Rosanna (Gardner) Moody (1826–1881) (1870 Census)
George Gardner (1831–Deceased) (1850 Census)
John Gardner (1833–Deceased) (1850 & 1860 Census)
Sarah J Gardner (1837–1931) (1850 & 1860 Census)
Cyrus Gardner (1838–Deceased) (1850 & 1860 Census)
Cassandra Gardner (1843–Deceased) (1860 Census)
Research Notes
Note: The Family Search ID for the sources listed here is: LT2Y-G23 [6] When reviewing Family Search it keeps suggesting a record that is attached to another John Gardner - Family Search ID: LVJQ-BNG whom was married to "Mary Pugh Gardner." The dates of birth are close (1792 vs 1794) but the date/place of death is very different and I do not believe they are the same person. I just wanted to note this here in case further research is required.
