Biography

Birth and Childhood

Matilda Garland was the daughter of Walter Garland (1842-1913) and Eliza Atkins Smith (1839-1905). Matilda was born at Sherford, Taunton, Somerset on 8 Apr 1865 and baptised at St George's Church, Wilton on 4 Jun 1865. [1] [2] [3]

Matilda married Joseph Pope (1867-1928) at St George's Church, Wilton, Somerset on 25 Dec 1886. [27] [28] [29]

Her husband Joseph died at Bridgwater, Somerset in 1928 age abt 61. [50]

Joseph was an alcoholic and sadly he committed suicide by hanging himself.
