Amos was the son of Amos Garland and Mary James. He was born in Ossipee, New Hampshire on 6 September 1795.[1] On 25 June 1820 he married Elizabeth Parker, probably in Ossipee.[2] Amos and Betsy had at least ten children. Amos lived in Topsham, Vermont and Salisbury, New Hampshire. He was a gunsmith in the War of 1812, but his normal occupation was as a blacksmith.[3][4] Amos was a participant in the Battle of Platsburg, New York. In his later years he became a Selectman, and District Clerk. On 26 December 1871 Amos passed away in Topsham, Vermont.[1]
