Biography

Catherine Garlick was born in 1883 in Woolwich, Kent, England to John Thomas Garlick and Jane (Davies) Garlick. Her birth was registered in Woolwich in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Davies.[1]

In 1891 Catharine Garlick (age 8, Scholar) lived at Harden Street in Woolwich with her father John C (36, General Labourer), mother Jane (36), and three siblings: John D (2[12], Scholar), Frances (6, Scholar), and Helen (3, Scholar).[2]

In 1901 Catherine Garlick (age 18, Domestic Servant at Home) lived at Harden Street in Woolwich with her father John Thomas (45, General Labourer), mother Jane E (45), brother John T (22, General Labourer), sister Ellen M (13), and nurse child May Brick (2).[3]

Catherine Garlick married Robert Edward Jeffs (went by Edward) in 1909. The marriage was registered in Woolwich in the second quarter of the year.[4] Edward was a widower with children from his first marriage.

Edward and Catherine had four children: Catherine Lilian Gertrude Jeffs (1910-1964), Doris Mabel Jeffs (1912-), John Richard Jeffs (1914-1972), and Reginald Walter Jeffs (1920-1994).

In 1911 Catherine Jeffs (age 29) lived in at 682 Woolwich Road in Charlton and Kidbrooke, London with her husband Edward (39, Telegraph Instrument Maker for Telegraph Works), seven step-children: Stanley (15, Rubber Washer Electrical for Telegraph Works), Violet (14, School), Leslie (12, School), Percy (10, School), Dorothy (8, School), Albert (6, School), and William (4), and daughter Lily (1).[5] Edward had another son, Leonard (5), who was living with Edward's uncle Richard Jeffs in Stoke Newington, London, as well as an older son, Edward (16, Lift Attendant), who was living with his employer in St Clement Danes, Strand, London.

Catherine's husband passed away in 1922: "JEFFS Edward of 682 Woolwich-road Charlton Kent died 12 April 1922 Administration London 22 May to Catherine Jeffs widow. Effects £150 10s. 11d."[6]

She may be the Catherine Jeffs whose marriage to Frederick J Ward was registered in Woolwich in the last quarter of 1922.[7] If so, Catherine Ward's death was registered in Greenwich, London in the last quarter of 1969, with date of birth 26 Jan 1883.[8]
