Biography

Christopher was born in 1617 at Kings Stanley, Gloucestershire, England. He was the son of Nicholas Girlington and Jane (Lambert) Girlington.

It is assumed that Christopher Garlington, the Immigrant, came to Virginia about 1637/38, probably escaping the oppression of King Charles and his increasingly heavy taxation. The name of his parents are unknown, as is the area of England he came from. It is thought that he may have returned to England and could have married Elizabeth Wyatt while there. They had 3 children; Elizabeth born ca. 1650, Sarah, born about 1654 and Christopher II, born 1656/57.

Records show that Christopher probably moved from York Co. to Northumberland by 1658. Possibly moved after his wife, Elizabeth died.

He died sometime before 19 Dec 1677, leaving a wife, Mrs. Joane Garlington, who later married Lt. Col. Samuel Smith. ^[1]

The link above to the "William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Volume 9" states William Miller's wife's (Mary Heath) parents were Thomas and Winifred in one paragraph and in a later paragraph seems to state Thomas and Winifred were William Miller's parents:
