Biography

John Garner was born before 1675 in Ireland - either Antrim or Londonderry. He had two daughters with Mary Welsh about 1664. He died in Anne Arundel, Maryland, but is reported of Cecil County, Maryland as well. The earliest records presently available for John Garner and his wife Mary Welch/Welsh appears to be marriage records.

Research Notes

One Genealogy Forum record describes him as John Garner of Cecil County, Maryland.

For the following record, subscriber access to Ancestry.com is needed to confirm the applicability, based upon the redacted information:

England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973 (Birth, Marriage & Death indexing courtesy Ancestry.com): John Garner, Spouse: Margarett Welch, Marriage: dd mm year location[citation needed]

A similar record put the marriage in Anne Arundel, Maryland, which is consistent with other migratory information on descendants:

Maryland, Compiled Marriage Index, 1634-1777 (Birth, Marriage & Death): John Garner, Spouse: Mary Welsh [sic(?)], Marriage: dd mm year[citation needed] Anne Arundel

This migration record may be pertinent to the John Garner of present:

U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s (Immigration & Emigration): John Garner, Other: name, Arrival: Virginia year [citation needed]

This "vital" record may also prove dispositive with subscriber access:

Northamptonshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1532-1812 (Birth, Marriage & Death): Mary Garner, Spouse: John Garner, Vital: city, Northamptonshire[citation needed]

For each of the above four records, the sourcing can be ruled out or alternatively strengthened once the Ancestry.com subscriber-linked data access is completed.

Mary (Welsh) Toogood (bef.1677-1726) was removed as the wife of John Garner because primary sources prove she was married 1st to Richard Purnell. John Garner married a different Mary Welsh.

Garner-2691 and Garner-15 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth year. Same wife.
