Biography

Robert was born December 27th 1865, in Charles County, Maryland. He married Rosa A. Turner on October 30th 1889, in Washington DC. Rosa was born July 1870 in Washington DC. They had 11 children with 8 surviving childhood.

In 1910 Robert is working as a conductor for the Districts trolley system, has been married 11 years, and has 4 children. Sometime between this census and 1906 he had 3 of his brother Richard’s children living with his family. By 1910 he is a street car motorman with 8 children.

1920 finds Rose living with her son Charles, his wife, their 2 children, as well as Robert and Rosa’s minor children. The 1930 census has Harry taking over as the head of the house for his mother with the help of his siblings William, Rose, and Catherine.

Rosa died November 2nd 1935 at the age of 65. Robert and Rose are buried in Congressional Cemetery, Washington DC.

Obituary:
"On December 5, 1911 at 8:52 p.m. at his residence, 331 O street s.w., Robert T. Garner beloved husband of Rosa A. Garner (nee Turner).

Oh how sudden was the summons
When the word came he was dead
Time was too short to say farewell
To my husband I loved so well
Sleep on dear husband sweet be your rest
I need you but God knows best
God's will be done, He doeth well
How I miss you no tongue can tell.

By his devoted wife, Rosie A. Garner

Funeral from Westminster Church at 2 p.m., December 8."
