George was born on 2 January 1871 in Tasmania.

He married Amy on 17 August 1894. At the time of his marriage his occupation was a black smith.

He signed up to service in WW1 on the 18 September 1915 and joined the 4th Machine Gun Company . At this time his employment was with the Tasmanian Railway and after the war returned to the railway.

He passed away in Tasmania on 6 April 1938
