Jacob Garrard, born September 4, 1763, the eldest son of John and Mary Bolt Garrard, was about ten or twelve years of age when his father moved from South Carolina to Wilkes County, Georgia. Jacob Garrard said, "that the Revolutionary War had been going on about three years when he entered the service at the age of sixteen." He was in the battle of Cowpens, as well as other engagements, and remained in the service until the end of the War. (Extract from an old family letter).
According to family records, Jacob Garrard married on 22 June 1786 to Mary Elizabeth Barron. their marriage probably occurred in Wilkes County, Georgia. [1]
