Dicey was born about 1833. The 1850 US Census has her living in the household of John Garren. She married William Pinckney Maxwell. (Her sister, Elizabeth married William’s brother, Cary Maxwell.)
This bio was taken from a family record and written by Donna J Patterson Stover: "William Pinckney Maxwell and Dicey Garren Maxwell had two sons, John, who died at the age of three years, and William Ervin. Dicey never remarried when William perished during the Civil War in a POW camp in Tennessee from typhoid fever. She lived for a period with her sister, Elizabeth and brother-in-law-law, Cary Maxwell, and later with her son, William Ervin and his family. Dicey was a petite woman with a fiery temper and an imposing nature. Her family was of German descent and she spoke with a heavy accent. Dicey Maxwell died 22 January 1903, and is buried in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery next to a memorial marker for William Pinckney."
Of interest, two Maxwell brothers, Cary and William Pinckney, married two Garren sisters, Elizabeth and Dicey.
