Samuel was born in 1881 to Samuel Garrett and Sarah Swagerty. He married Zenia Belle Lochridge at age 24, then moved from Arkansas to Colorado between 1935-1938, and from Colorado to California between 1940-1942, where he spent the rest of his life. He passed away in 1971 at the age of 89.
