The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon, 31 January 2014 Berda D. Hileman 1934 – 2014 Berda D. Hileman left home to be with our Lord January 26th after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 80 years old. Berda was born January 25, 1934 in Murphy, North Carolina to Leona & Gurley Garrett. She was the youngest of 3 children, sister to Elsa Goodell & Esta Thornton (deceased). At age of 3, the family moved to CA for work but after about a year they moved north to Disston and Culp Creek, OR where she grew up and attended school. While living in Culp Creek she met Leroy Hileman. They married on Dec. 6, 1952, and celebrated 61 years of marriage. In 1953, they moved to Oakridge where their two children were born. In 1956 they moved to Florence for work & then back to Oakridge where they lived until 1996. Berda worked as a waitress at Manning's Cafe for several years before becoming a nurse. She worked at the Oakridge Clinic until retirement. In 1996, they moved to Springfield due to severe health issues but she always missed the mountains where she loved to hunt, fish, and camp. She also loved to crochet, knit & garden. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Hileman; daughter, Verna Jo Hileman; son LeRoy Hileman Jr. (wife Nicole); sister, Elsa Goodell; granddaughters; Laura Madison & Leonida Hileman (husband Jeremy Rumsey); grandson, Jacob Hileman; 6 great-grandchildren & numerous in laws, out laws, nieces, nephews & friends. A graveside service will be held at the Upper Mabel Cemetery above Marcola, Sunday, Feb 2nd at 1 pm. All are invited to attend.
