Earl was born in 1883 to Seth Garrett and Fanny Cole. His father died in 1884, and his mother in 1885. His Aunt Artemesia, widowed in 1885, raised him. He married at age 26 to Allie May Daniel and had 2 sons. One, Daniel, died at age 17. The oldest, Orville, fought in and survived WWII.
Earl outlived his wife by 16 years and passed away in 1978 at 94 years old.
