John was born in 1826. He enlisted in Company D, 5th Regiment, Kentucky Cavalry in November, 1861. His regiment was a part of Sherman’s March through Georgia. He ended the war in North Carolina at the surrender of General Joseph Johnson’s confederate army. He traveled by train to Louisville, Kentucky where he was mustered out on May 3, 1865. He returned home to Allen County, Kentucky and lived there the remainder of his life. He passed away in 1905.
