David was born about 1767 probably in New Jersey, and later lived in Cumberland County.
David married Rebecca [Van Meter] probably shortly before 1800. The lived in Cumberland County for the next decade, then removed to Clark County, Ohio between 1807 and 1813.
David died between 17 December 1832 and 27 May 1833, the dates his will was dated and proved.[1]
Online trees report an exact birth date of 20 May 1800, but no source for this is yet known. His parents are reported to be Joel and Catherine (DuBois) Garrison, but again, no source is known. Joel and Catherine did have a son David Garrison who 1/2 acre in Pittsgrove Village in the distribution of Joel's estate. David was then forced to sell this plot a few years later after a monetary dispute was resolved against him in court. At the time of that land sale, he was said to be of Cumberland County. But it seems there were multiple David Garrisons old enough to transact land and living in Cumberland County at that time, so it is hard to say if this is the man who married Rachel VanMeter.
There is a report that David's son Gamaliel had a family bible that was passed down through generations. The website that reports this unfortunately confounds multiple sources together into one genealogical summary, without indicating which information came from the bible. But considering that page does not report the exact birthdate for David, it seems likely it did not identify David's parents either.
