Biography

Ellen C. Garrity was born on 7 December 1870 in Berlin, Worcester, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of James Garrity and Bridget Mullen. She was known as Nellie. She was Nellie C. She had a 1st cousin named Nellie Elizabeth Garrity. Nellie Elizabeth was also born in Berlin; born in 1867 to Michael Garrity, the brother of James Garrity. ^[1]

In 1880, Nellie was 9 years old and living in Berlin, Massachusetts with her parents James (50 yrs) and Bridget (47 yrs) and her siblings Mary A. (20 yrs), John (18 yrs), Delia (15 yrs), James (12 yrs) and Agnes (4 yrs). ^[2]

On 18 September 1895, Nellie C. Garrity married Silas Rolla Carter in Clinton, Massachusetts. Nellie and Silas never had children. Silas died in 1913 and Nellie never married again, living most of her life in Berlin, Massachusetts. She died in Hudson, Massachusetts. I surmise that she moved to Hudson to live with family. She was 88/89 when she died. Seeing the 1950 Census and other documents between 1940 and 1959 would help to determine when she moved and who she lived with in those years. ^[3]

In 1900 and 1910, Nellie and Silas lived in Berlin. ^{[4] [5]}

Nellie's husband Silas died on 29 January 1913.

In 1920, 1930 and 1940, Nellie continued to live in Berlin. ^{[6] [7] [8]}

Nellie passed away in 1959, apparently in Hudson, Middlesex, Massachusetts. She was buried in South Berlin Cemetery in Berlin, Massachusetts where her husband was buried many years earlier in 1913. ^[9]
