John Garside was born in Yorkshire, England.

John was born in 1843. He was the son of Robert Garside and Sarah Silvester, [1] and was baptised on 25 January 1844 at St Peter Leeds. [2]

In 1851 [3] they are living in Accommodation Road, Leeds. His father is now employing 10 men in his Corn Mill Business.

John married Margaret Weatherhead (ne Paley) on 7 December 1880 at the Wesleyan Chapel in Bramley Leeds. [4] They both worked as Prison Warders at Armley Gaol. Margaret was a widow and she was the daughter of James Paley, Builder. [5]

In 1881 [6] John and Margaret are living in Clyde Street, Bramley, Leeds. Margaret's daughter Clara is living with them and also her mother Bessie Paley.

In 1891 [7] They are living at Hartwith, Summerbridge and John is the Inn Keeper of 'The Flying Dutchman'. They have two sons and Margaret's daughter Clara is still living with them. They had six children between 1881 and 1890, only two survived long after birth.

He passed away about 1892, age about 47, [8] and was buried at Summerbridge, Yorkshire. [9] Probate was granted to Margaret Garside on 8 July 1892 [10] at Wakefield. Date of death given as 3 March 1892.
