Biography/Obituary

DENLINGER - Mary Allie (Garst) Denlinger, daughter of John and Mary Jane Garst, was born near North Hampton, Ohio, April 23, 1871, and died at her home near Trotwood, Ohio, May 8, 1941, aged 70 years and 15 days.

Near the age of 10 years, following her father's death, she with her mother and her family moved near Brandt, Ohio, where the rest of her childhood and early life was spent.

She united with The Old German Baptist Church at the age of 16 years and lived a devoted and exemplary Christian life until she answered the summons of her Master.

On January 10, 1897, she was united in holy matrimony with Daniel F. Denlinger, which union was blessed with 12 children, six sons and six daughters. Six children preceded their mother in death.

She, by virtue of her husband's election, was chosen to the Deacon's office in 1901, in which office they labored faithfully and devotedly.

Remembering the injunction of the Apostle James, she called for the elders of the Church and was anointed with oil in the name of the Lord on January 27, 1940.

She leaves to mourn her departure her devoted husband, 3 sons and 3 daughters; namely, Wilbur J., Isaac G., and Perry D.; Mrs. Anna M. Bowser, Mrs. Della I. Garber and Mrs. Sarah E. Brubaker; also 23 grand-children - 3 grandchildren preceded her in death. Besides her immediate family she leaves 3 sisters; namely Mrs. Ella Frantz, Mrs. Etta Brubaker, and Mrs. Emma Evans; four brothers and one sister preceded her in death: Abram, Marion, Ira and Jasper Garst and Mrs. Anna Shoup.

She was a loving and devoted companion, a kind and sympathetic mother, and always interested in the welfare of home, family, community and the church; and we can but feel our loss keenly by her passing, but we trust our loss is her eternal gain; and say with one of old, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away; blessed be His name."

Funeral services by the undersigned assisted by Elder D. M. Coning and Elder Finley Heck, at the Stillwater Church, Sunday, May 11, at 2:30 P. M. from Romans 8:18-19, to a vast concourse of relatives and friends.

Her body was laid to rest in the little cemetery adjoining the Stillwater church, to await the resurrection call. Hymns used were nos. 384, 392, 299, and 400.
