Susan Garth was born on 25 Nov 1845 in Hobart, Van Dieman's Land, Australia .She was the daughter of James Garth, Sawyer, and Elizabeth Garth. [1]
Even though her birth registration name is Susan, all documents points to her using Susannah as her preferred first name.
'Susannah' Garth, aged 26 married Walter Thomas Hill (1848-1875), aged 24 on 29 Jun 1872 in Port Cygnet at the house of James Garth (Father of Susan). [2]
Susannah and Walter had a daughter, Grace Elizabeth (Hill) Bowden (1873-) in 1873. Walter died 2 years later, aged 27. Walter drowned during the overturning of the Excelsior off the coast of Tasmania.[3]
Susannah later married for a second time in 1883, aged 37, to James Bernard Laffere/Laffer at St Mark's, Port Cygnet. [4]
She died on 20 June 1893 in Port Cygnet, aged 47. The cause of death was consumption phthisis (TB). [5] Susannah is buried at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Cygnet, Tasmania. [6]
Although her Headstone has the spelling of her last name as Laffer, her Last Will and Testament has the spelling as Laffere and signed as such. Hence keeping the Last name spelling of Laffere on the profile. [7]
