Biography
24 February 1788 is the date of the marriage bond for John Garthright and Sarah Woodfin, daughter of John James Woodfin.[1]
THE DEED DESCRIBED BELOW GIVES US A FATHER-TO-SON RELATIONSHIP:
On 5 April 1788, Samuel Garthright of the parish and County of Henrico gives to his son John Garthright of the same parish and county, for "love and affection" and 5 shillings, 265 acres in the aforesaid parish and county "part of a tract of land purchased of James P. Cocke and Richard Randolph". The deed is witnessed by John Pleasants, Benj. Goode, Joseph Goode and William Frayser.
Henrico, Virginia Order Book 14, page 22 On 29 March 1808, the 375 acres belonging to the estate of John James Woodfin, deceased, "on which he formerly resided" was divided into five lots of 75 acres each as follows:
- Lot No. 1 - to John Gathright's orphans
- Lot No. 2 - to Thomas Woodfin's orphans
- Lot No. 3 - to Samuel Goode
- Lot No. 4 - William Woodfin's orphans
- Lot No. 5 - to John Woodfin.[2]
On 29 March 1808, the 375 acres belonging to the estate of John James Woodfin, deceased, "on which he formerly resided" was divided into five lots of 75 acres each as follows:
- Lot No. 1 - to John Gathright's orphans
- Lot No. 2 - to Thomas Woodfin's orphans
- Lot No. 3 - to Samuel Goode
- Lot No. 4 - William Woodfin's orphans
- Lot No. 5 - to John Woodfin.[3]
