Charles Milton Garthwaite 1859-1939 "The Milton Junction Telephone", Milton Junction, Wisconsin, Thursday, Apr. 13, 1939, p 1. C. M. Garthwaite, who suffered a stroke a year and a half ago, died Friday morning at his home in Milton Junction. Charles Milton Garthwaite was born July 8, 1859, on a farm on the River road near here. On Nov. 5, 1880, he married Cornelia Tifft of Black Earth. They lived on the River road a few years before moving to Milton Junction where Mrs. Garthwaite died in 1913. Mr. Garthwaite was a butcher by trade and operated a meat market in Milton Junction about 20 years, part of the time in partnership with A. E. Menz. He also drove a meat wagon through the country and later was wagon man for the McGowan Oil company. During early manhood he was baptized and became a member of the Rock River S. D. B. church. Survivors are two daughters: Mrs. Etta Lumm, Milton Junction, and Mrs. Wm. Kidder, Edgerton; and five grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Isabel Knopf, died in Milwaukee last October. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gray and Albrecht funeral home, Eld A. G. Johnson, who had visited the sick man frequently, officiating. Burial was made in Milton Junction, pallbearers being Jens Everson, Chas. Vogel, Otto Kerchhoff, Geo. Crandall Jr., A. M. Paul and H. S. Green.
