John Gartley was born in Ireland.

John was born in 1906.

On 2 April 1911 the Gartley family lived in Largymore, Donegal, Ireland. [1] Aaron Gartley (72) Farmer & Ellen Jane Gartley (65) married 40 years with Nephew Aaron Gartley (44) Farmer's son & Mary Ann Gartley (30) married 10 years with 6 children born / 5 living, Thomas Gartley (8), John Gartley (7), James Gartley (3), Ellen Jane Gartley (1), Aaron Gartley, all Irish Church with servant John Gillespie (16) Roman Catholic.

On 19 December 1925 he emigrated from Northern Ireland on board SS Caledonia and arrived in New York on 29 December 1925. Age 22, Farm Labourer, single travelling with cousin Elizabeth Gartley (23). Father Aaron Gartley.

On 2 April 1930, John (Elevator Operator) lived in Amsterdam Ave, Manhattan, New York, New York. Naturalization: First Papers. Single, living with his brother Thomas Gartley. [2]

On 10 October 1936 he departed Londonderry, Ireland, age 29, on SS Transylvania, he was a porter and single. He arrived in New York on 18 October 1936.

He was Naturalized on 16 November 1936, residing at 565 W 192 Street, New York, an Elevator operator. Immigration Year listed as 1925.

On 28 April 1942 he enlisted as a Private into the US Army at Fort Jay Governors Island, New York. PFC US ARMY WORLD WAR II Marital Status: Single, without dependents; Height: 65" & Weight 186 lbs.

John Gartley married Jane Martin

On 16 May 1956, aged 49, he and Jane departed New York, New York, United States on SS Britannic, he was an Elevator man and arrived Liverpool, England on 25 May 1956 for a visit of 12 weeks. The visited Legananny Leitrim, Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland and departed England in July 1956, arriving back in New York on 4 August 1956.

In 1974 he lived in Flushing, Queens, New York.

He passed away in 1974 and was buried on 21 August 1974 at the Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York.
