Stephen was born about 1650. He passed away before 1692. No evidence has been found to support Stephen Gary as the son of Arthur Gary and Francis (Warman) Gary. However, Lawrence Brainerd's book on the descendants of Arthur Gary has a chapter on this Stephen Gary and his descendants, while acknowledging that there is no proven connection between Arthur Gary and the Stephen Gary of this profile.[1]No evidence has been found yet that he was a son of William Geary-662.
"Stephen Gary was an early inhabitant of Charlestown, Mass., the year of his arrival has not been ascertained. He was born about 1650/1, as he deposed in court in 1679 and gave his age as about 28 and again in 1690, when with uniform consistency, he stated his age as about 38. In early life he was a servant to the Hon. Richard Russell of Charlestown and it is evident that at a still earlier date he had been indentured to Capt. Richard Sprague (1605- 1668), also of Charlestown, who mentions him in his will of 1668, " Stephen Gary, my servant by indenture, whose time is not expired." In one early record he is styled " Stephen Gary, bellman."[2]
"Stephen " Gearie." Servant to R. Russell; bellman; a?. 28, 1679; testified in case Ballatt vs. Russell; ae. 38, 1690; m. Mary Manuell Aug. 14, 1673. Issue.— Ami, b. Jan. 17, 1679." [3]
He married first, in Charlestown, Aug. 14, 1673, Mary Manuell, probably a sister of John Manuell of Charlestown. After her death he married Patience. Very little of the details of his life are obtainable." [4] [5]
Stephen and Mary Gary had a daughter Anna born in Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts 17 Jan 1679.[6]
The record of the The Pease Family of Great Baddow, England and Martha's Vineyard compiled by Richard Bart mentions Stephen Gary born 1651 as husband of Patience Pease. [7]
"Estate. — Buys of Agnes Wadland, house formerly of James Drinker — s w, by lane 30 &c. ; 1676, rec. 1692. To the town, same, 1685." [8]
"His will was proved Jan. 16, 1691/2 and in this instrument he mentions his wife Patience, " now with child." The inventory of his estate amounted to £76. This amount was shown in the inventory presented by Patience Gary, " Relict Widow of Stephen Gary, late of Charlestown, deceased," "Inventory : House and land, £76."[9] "Will, Jan. 2, 1691-2, devised to wife Patience, now with child. His master, S. Ballatt, overseer." [10]

This could be father of both Also have 2 will’s one dated 1686 the other 1675 both of dorchester Massachusetts
edited by M. Gary
Of Anne Arundel .this Stephen could be the the father of the new Steven or son and grandson of the Stephen in Dorchester.I can’t see this Stephen being a sheriff in Dorchester as his age would of been in the 20 s seems young for that. The father of the new Steven could have been the Stephen that John gary called cousin in his Will. Wouldn’t that be an uncle? (. John Gary -245 )
Also there is a Israel Gere and a Robert Gere Who came over they were not sponsored by another Gary
The earliest I have seen Steven was in the early 1630 s before 35 The only father of ant Steven Gary I can find is a George Did you find it for yourself in the book. I downloaded a new version of family search and I am a sorry sucker it’s so different and hard to navigate. I tried to email you it wouldn’t go Thur.
There was also a different Steven Gary, son of Steven Gary, born 1665.
During those times, Stephen serving as an indentured servant to Captain Richard Sprague-188 implies that Stephen was an emigrant. (I am also a direct descendant of Richard's father and mother. Richard was childless.) Richard emigrated with his brothers from Dorset, England. Most likely young Stephen Gary indentured himself to Richard to enable his passage and emigration, a common practice in those days. Likely Richard and Stephen were both from Dorset or the vicinity. The families may have known each other or been blood related in England.
Yes, I also am still learning the new user interface on FamilySearch.
I think we should remove the image of Steven's birth record from this profile. I suggest creating another profile for Steven Gary, born 1665 in Middlesex, Massachusetts, son of Steven Gary.
