Biography
Laura, her parents and siblings were living and working on a small farm at White Cliffs near Pukearuhe when a group of Maori visited the surrounds and then their farm. The Maori had killed 2 men earlier before seemingly being friendly towards her father.
Unfortunately, when her father, Bamber, turned his back to open the door to their abode, he was savagely struck on the back of the head and killed. Laura, her mother and siblings were murdered shortly afterwards.
This event is known as the 'White Cliffs Massacre'.
